A Thriftin’ We Will Go!

Well, have you been thrifting lately?  I have, I have!  Now, before I go any further, I have a confession to make.  My hubs, great that he may be, just does not have my vision!  He doesn’t get it…and in turn sometimes he just doesn’t get me!  Well, finally the clouds broke, the sun beams shined down, and angels sung in harmony…Hot Rod actually liked a couple of my recent thrifts.  Yay me!  First off, I went to an estate sale the other day and found these treasures:

This crate was $3.00.  It’s kind of an ugly hunter green, but a little spray paint and this will be quite lovely for storage.

These books were my biggest expenditure because they were $3.50 each.  They are pricey but I chose them based on a couple of things, first off color, second wear, and third age.  I just love using books like this as “height enhancers” for my décor on shelves or tables.  These books were quite the treasure hunt too.

I found these old newspaper clippings in the “A Tale of Two Cities” book.  They looked really old.  I couldn’t find a date but the advertisements on them are great!

I loved the colors in this book.  The cover colors were amazing!  Then I opened it up and found the publish date…

I guess this is a second edition or something, because the original copywright was 1898 and this one was copywrighted in 1909.

It had all kinds of things stuck in the pages, included this Home Mission Bulletin.  I just love finding stuff like this.

But, Hot Rod wasn’t just thrilled with this stuff, it was the next things I found…

1967 Playboys!  They are so cool.  Hot Rod just loved them.  He got quite a kick out of the prices of things in advertisements.  Cars for like $750!  Can you believe?  I got 3 of them and really wish I would have bought them all.  They were $5.00 a piece which we found to be the actual value of them, so no real big huge find there but they are in amazing condition and I’m just happy to have them.  Here are the other 2 I got.  I actually chose mine based on the covers.  I thought they were cool.

I can’t find the hidden bunny on this one…unless the big bunny is the “hidden” one, but I just didn’t think it would be that.  Can you find the hidden bunny?  If so, please tell!

I did find the hidden bunny on this one…it’s his shoe lace.

This estate sale had so much Christmas stuff including tons of village stuff.  I have been collecting village stuff for years now.  I really loved a few of their things but they were priced just too high in my opinion.  All of their buildings they had priced at $27.50.  Which goes to show you why they were still there.  That’s just too much for those at a used price.  I did find some accessories though for the village that I thought were priced ok so this is what I got from them:

So, that was my estate sale finds.  Have you found anything cool lately while estate sale shopping?  I’ve decided I really need to get my lazy butt up on Saturdays and start hitting some garage sales.  I need to get to some things before the “professionals” price them at the estate sale!  ha ha ha

So, I totally love this outfit.  The scarf just pulls it all together.  The shoes ended up matching the pants exactly!  Unfortunately, those shoes were the death of me!  I fell AGAIN!  This time leaving work and right in front of the building.  I was so embarrassed.  I really hurt my right foot too when it twisted so there is no outfit for Friday, I worked from home and kept it up with ice on it.  It’s fine now so no permanent damage…except to my pride.  From now on, I will not be wearing my heels to and from the building.  I’m not giving them up totally though!  I will just wear flats in and out and then change to my heels when I get to my office.

This weather thing is just hit and miss these days.  One day we will have a perfectly lovely Fall day and then the next it will be like mid summer with temps in the high 90’s!  It makes it hard to dress when I’ve moved my clothes around already and my summer clothes have been relegated to the back closet!  But, I’ve been managing somehow.  So, let’s take a look-see…

This was my attempt at taking a huge fashion jump.  I think I managed ok, not perfect but ok.  The bright pink belt with an otherwise all black and white outfit is what I’m talking about.  I think I pulled it off though.

Blouse:  Target, September 2012

Black Skinnies:  Target, August 2012

Belt:  Target, October 2012

Shoes:  Steve Madden from, last month

Jewelry:  Brighton, Target, Stella and Dot, Avon

I really liked this outfit.  I paired this shirt with white pants previously but the gray looks really good with it too.

Shoes:  Boutique 9, from in 2011 I think????

Jewelry:  Avon, Brighton, Tiffany’s

OK, this outfit I totally stole!  I got my inspiration from HERE

Check her out in her version of this outfit:

This girl has the most amazing outfits and I love just about everything she puts together.  So, I loved this outfit and wanted to copy it.  My problem though is I didn’t have a black and white polka-dot shirt.  I’ve been kind of in trouble for spending too much money lately so I decided to try my hand at finding it thrifting instead.  I went to my local Goodwill one day at lunch and I found it!  It isn’t perfect because it’s short sleeved instead of sleeveless but I managed to make it work anyway.  I think in the future I’ll cut off the sleeves though.  So, I did pretty good huh?  Of course this lady looks so much cuter, thinner, and younger than I do but I still like the outfit.

My version:

Skirt:  Kohls, 2010 I think

Sweater:  New York and Company, 2010

Blouse:  Goodwill, $3.00!!!!  October 2012

Shoes:  DSW, September 2012

Belt:  Came with another dress

Necklace and earrings:  New York and Company, 2010

Rest of the jewelry:  Brighton, Avon, Tiffany’s

Look at me!  Being all brave and stuff again.  Pairing the 2 new Fall IT colors!  Mustard and Oxblood (aka burgundy for those of us that remember it being called that as long ago as this summer!)

Pants:  Target, September 2012

Shoes:  Target, September 2012

Sweater:  Kohls, Winter 2011

Black Tank:  Ann Taylor, 2011

Necklace, earrings, bracelet:  Avon

Rest of the jewelry:  Brighton, Avon, Tiffany’s

Well, while I was at Goodwill I found this little top as well.  It’s got a cute little cowgirl on it and it says Rodeo Wild.  Another well spent $3.00

Top:  Goodwill, $3.00!!!!  October 2012

Pants:  Target, October 2012

Jacket:  Old Navy, August 2012

Shoes:  Avon, 2011

Jewelry:  Tiffany’s, Avon, Brighton

So, there was the week before last?  What was your favorite outfit?  I have to go with the one that I copied from the “Outfit Posts” blog.  I just loved that turquoise with the gray and the black and white together!

Gripes and Gratitudes

I’m starting a new thing this week.  I’ve seen this on a few of the blogs I read and decided to adopt it myself.  I’ll try to do this weekly, hopefully every Friday.  It’s called Gripes and Gratitudes.  So, let’s start with the Gratitudes…because it’s always better to be thankful for what you have before you bitch about what you don’t, agreed?

*  My sweet baby granddaughter has learned our names.  She can say Nana and Pops very clearly now.  I’m trying not to be jealous that she says Pops a lot more and she goes running to him every time she sees us.

*  Sons of Anarchy! OMG!  I LOVE this show.

*  I’m going on a long weekend with the Love of my Life next weekend.  We are going to Santa Fe and I’m looking forward to it so much!

*  I had lunch with my daughters yesterday and it just reminded me how very lucky and so very thankful I am for my girls.  They are the most amazing women on the planet!

*  The weather lately has been amazing!  It is so beautiful this time of year.

Now let’s do the gripes…

*  I fell yesterday leaving work…right in front of the front door of the hospital!  I twisted my foot and it hurts like hell.  I’m working from home today to keep it elevated.  I’m going to have to swear off my heels walking in and out of work!  I’m sad about that.  I love my shoes!

*  My sister went through all of her husband’s life insurance in about a week.  She hasn’t paid her loan payment to me this month and now I’m going to have to call her and ask for it.  I HATE being a damn bill collector!

*  I have gained way too much weight recently.  I’m so depressed about it!  It seems no matter what I do, the weight just keeps climbing.  Dang, this getting old business is just so hard!

So, looks like I have more things to be thankful for.  Life is good!

Well, this was sure a dud week for my fashion choices.  I don’t like a single day’s outfit choice.  Bummer…remind me not to do that again!

WWW #38

Well, I was sick on Monday of this week so I don’t have a Monday outfit.  We’ll be starting with Tuesday.  I didn’t think you’d want to see me in my sweats laying on the couch all day!

This outfit took some bravery on my part to pull off.  I’ve always been such a “matchy-matchy” girl.  Things just have to match!  Well, I’m really trying to stretch my boundaries and go with some of the current fashion trends and in case you haven’t noticed they are definitely not in the “everything has to match” camp.  So, this was my first stretch!

Pants:  Loft – August 2012

Shirt:  New York and Company – 2011

Shoes:  Sperry – Dillards – very old

Jewelry:  This is some VERY old stuff I’ve had for a long time.  I think I got the necklace, bracelet, and earrings in 1986 or 1987.  Does that make it vintage yet????

This must be the week I decided to stretch my fashion wings so to speak!

Dress:  Target – very old, like 2008 I think????

Boots:  Brighton – Old, 2009 I think?

Jewelry:  Brighton, Avon, Tiffany’s

Lovin’ this outfit!

Pants:  Target – August 2012

Blouse:  Coldwater Creek (the best white blouse you will ever own!) – 2011

Jacket:  Coldwater Creek – 2011

Shoes:  Boutique 9 – online from

Jewelry:  Not sure, I think Avon?

OK, before I go any further, I decided to take the pants out of the boots so this picture is not really how I looked all day, but oh well, you get the idea.

Pants:  Loft – August 2012

Boots:  JC Penney – Black Friday 2011

Sweater:  Ann Taylor Outlet (I think) – 2010

Shirt:  Ann Taylor Outlet – 2010

Belt – came with a skirt

Jewelry:  Brighton, Avon, Tiffany’s

My favorite this week by far is Thursday!  I love that outfit and I’ll have to wear it again some day!

WWW #37

Well, I did it again, I let myself get behind.  Sorry about that!  I’ll catch up today and even throw in another off topic post highlighting my Fall Décor in my house!

So, let’s go!

I actually kind of like this look if it weren’t for my really ugly fat WHITE legs.  I need some color on those babies…oh and a few less pounds on them wouldn’t hurt either!

Dress:  Calvin Klein via – Early 2011 I think????

Sweater:  New York and Company (I think, it’s really old) – 2010 I think?

Belt:  Came with a dress or a shirt or something????

Shoes:  Target – These are the new ones I just got and I love the splash of color in the otherwise neutral outfit!

Jewelry:  Avon, Tiffany’s

Pants:  Target – August 2012

Blouse: Ann Taylor – 2011

Belt: Same as above, not really sure

Shoes: Coach Factory On-line – Summer 2012

Jewelry:  Avon, Tiffany’s, Brighton

This is a perfect example of transitioning something from summer to Fall, do you remember when I wore this dress before?  HERE  Well, with a few changes, the dress moves perfectly into Fall.

Dress:  Loft – August 2012

Sweater:  New York and Company – 2011

Belt:  Brighton Outlet – 2010

Shoes:  Avon – 2011

Jewelry:  Loft, Brighton, Avon

Dress:  Sams – September 2012

Leggings:  ???? I have no idea, they are super old though

Shoes:  Chinese Laundry via online

Jewelry:  Brighton, Tiffany’s, Avon

Pants:  Target – August 2012

Sweater:  Loft – August 2012

Shirt:  Kohls – very old, probably 2008 maybe????

Shoes:  Local Boutique – very old and they are actually retired now.  I actually didn’t even make it out of the house with them on.  They are just too big and they were coming off my feet and I decided not to mess with them.  Although I love them because they match this shirt so perfectly, I’m tired of fighting with them whenever I wear them.  Out they are going.  Sniff Sniff Sniff

So, I’m thinking Tuesday was my favorite this week?  Do you have a fave?
